At Cascade Virtual Academy, education extends beyond the digital classroom, thanks to passionate educators like Kayla Page. A dedicated teacher with 12 years of experience, Kayla is now in her second year at Cascade Virtual Academy, where she is reshaping the virtual learning experience for students and families across Oregon.

Kayla’s leadership extends beyond her classroom. This year, she took on the role of Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Chair, working closely with Secretary Sheila Heino to revitalize the organization from the ground up. Through her efforts, the PTO is becoming a strong support system for families, ensuring they feel connected and engaged in their children’s education.

She has introduced innovative tools like a Progress Hub on OneNote and Padlet to enhance collaboration among families statewide, making communication more efficient and accessible for everyone. Understanding the importance of community, Kayla has spearheaded several initiatives to bring students and families together in meaningful ways.

  • A T-Shirt Fundraiser to help support school activities and foster school spirit.
  • A Spring Whale Watch Outing, providing families with an exciting, educational in-person experience.
  • A Virtual Pen-Pal Program, encouraging students to connect with peers across the state.

Kayla’s commitment to student engagement goes beyond traditional learning. She leads the Video Game Club for grades 3–7, promoting teamwork, inclusivity, and friendship. Additionally, she bridges connections between younger students and the high school’s E-Sports Team, which is led by her husband, Mitch Page. These programs provide students with opportunities to collaborate, compete, and develop skills in a fun and interactive way.

As both an educator and a mother of a first-grader, Kayla brings a unique perspective to her role. Her experience as a PTO member, even before becoming a parent, has given her invaluable insight into the needs and expectations of families in a virtual setting. This dual perspective allows her to advocate effectively for students and their families, ensuring a well-rounded and supportive educational experience.

Kayla Page exemplifies the power of passionate teaching in the virtual space. Through her leadership, creativity, and dedication, she is cultivating strong parent-teacher partnerships, creating unique student experiences, and fostering a deep sense of belonging for families across Oregon. Her work proves that virtual education can be just as engaging, supportive, and community-driven as any traditional school setting.
