Cascade Virtual Academy Advances to State Finals After Winning Oregon’s Math Prodigy Cup
Students at Cascade Virtual Academy (CVA) are celebrating a major academic win after earning 1st Place in Oregon’s statewide Math Prodigy Challenge, securing the official Math Prodigy Cup title in October 2025.
A total of 259 CVA students in grades K–8 participated in the virtual competition, tackling customized math questions aligned to their individual grade level and skill mastery. Throughout the challenge, teachers closely monitored student growth, assigned targeted standards, and used real-time data to support learning along the way.
This statewide victory qualified CVA to advance to the Prodigy Finals in May 2026, where schools from across Oregon will compete for grants of up to $100,000 to support continued academic innovation and student success.
Building Engagement Through Meaningful Math Practice
The Math Prodigy Challenge brought more than just scores and standings. Teachers and staff observed noticeable shifts in student engagement and enthusiasm for math during the competition.
Throughout the challenge:
· Students showed increased motivation and time-on-task
· Math participation and excitement grew across grade levels
· School culture was strengthened through shared goals and friendly competition
· Students celebrated progress together, tracked growth, and encouraged one another
· The challenge demonstrated how game-based learning can reinforce foundational skills while keeping students actively engaged in their education
Using Data to Support Student Growth
Math Prodigy is a state-standards aligned, game-based math platform used by educators across Oregon. The platform allows students to build skills through interactive practice while providing teachers with real-time insights into accuracy, growth, and participation.
At CVA, teachers use the platform to support small-group instruction, independent practice, and targeted skill reinforcement. This data-driven approach ensures instruction meets students where they are and helps educators adjust support as skills develop.
Looking Ahead to the State Finals
“We’re incredibly proud of our students’ dedication and the hard work that led to this statewide victory,” said Joy Fino, Prodigy Lead and 4th Grade Teacher at Cascade Virtual
Academy. “As we head toward the May Finals, CVA continues to show strong participation and momentum, and we’re honored to represent our school community in the competition for the top state title.”
As CVA prepares for the upcoming 2026 Prodigy Finals, the school community is celebrating not just the win, but the growth, collaboration, and confidence students gained along the way.
